The dracunculus vulgaris also known by such names as the voodoo lily, corpse flower and Dragon
Lily is a rare beauty. This unusual flower, which blooms so beautifully
but can smell like death is the subject of a new watercolor painting by artist
Fern Christian. When this painting is completed, it will hang in the
Renaissance Art Gallery.
The work in process is beautiful
already. When finished it will hang in the Renaissance Art Gallery.
"I've had this plant for several years and each year I marvel
at the beauty and size of the blooms . This year it rained so much it's scent
was not present . Blessing ! The blooms come suddenly ,last briefly , then
vanish --- everything is gone before you can decide exactly how you feel about
such an unusual plant . I did get a photo and now I will try to express some of
my mixed emotions ."
~ Fern Christian
