Attention all miniaturists

 

We failed to include information in our prospectus to our artist friends who work in encaustic . Due to the growing interest in the medium, we will be accepting encaustic works this year. We are very excited to see your new creations, so turn the heat on!

Dragon Lily

 

 

The dracunculus vulgaris also known by such names as  the voodoo lily, corpse flower and Dragon Lily is a rare beauty. This unusual flower, which blooms so beautifully but can smell like death is the subject of a new watercolor painting by artist Fern Christian. When this painting is completed, it will hang in the Renaissance Art Gallery.

The work in process is beautiful already. When finished it will hang in the Renaissance Art Gallery.

 

 

"I've had this plant for several years and each year I marvel at the beauty and size of the blooms . This year it rained so much it's scent was not present . Blessing ! The blooms come suddenly ,last briefly , then vanish --- everything is gone before you can decide exactly how you feel about such an unusual plant . I did get a photo and now I will try to express some of my mixed emotions ."

Ms Christian graduated from Marshall University in 1968 and later earned thirty hours of post-graduate credit in studio painting. She belongs to the Tri-State Art Association, of which is a past president. A signature member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society, she is an accomplished painter in many media. Currently she serves as the Director of the Renaissance Art Gallery and teaches painting Monday and Saturday mornings..

 

 

Student Exhibition

Along with displaying original art by local artists, the Renaissance Art Gallery offers a growing list of art classes. This month the Gallery is proud to display work by our paintings classes in the Kumkum Majumdar Exhibition Hall. Anna Starling , Sue Goodno , Marie McDowell , Wilma Hilton , Sharolyn Mc Cray , Cristy Peters , Catherine Chandler and Bill Prestley, students of Director Fern Christian,  all have work hanging. You may visit the gallery and enjoy this show Friday and Saturday 12-4 pm and Sunday 1-4 pm at the Renaissance Art Gallery.

Art Auction for Children's Hospital

The artists of the Renaissance Art Gallery have been invited to be part of an auction to benefit the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital at Cabel Huntington Hospital this weekend. The Silent auction will be held at the Huntington Mall in the center court.

 

Amoung the contributors is Ron Haeberle, Susan Tschantz, Fern Christian, Linda Helgason, Pati Payne and Laura Moul. This diverse group of art includes oil paintings, watercolors, pastels and photography.

The Auction will be on display in the center court of the Huntington Mall starting at 9:00 am Saturday June 22, 2013. People are invited to view the art and bid on their favorite pieces.

 

All proceeds goes directly to the Hoops Children's Hosptial at Cabel-Huntington.

 

The auction is sponsored by the Huntington Mall, West Virginia.

Wednesday studio hours will resume with art classes for adults and children Wednesday June 5 for the summer session.

 

 

 

We are continuing working with human portraits and getting a solid foundation in art.

This summer we are planning on working drawing from life, both in the studio and at Ritter Park. Summer is also the time we explore new media.

On the schedule for this year is charcoal, conte and silverpoint.










Times are:

• 1-3 pm for Adults and High School Students
• 3:30-4:30 for Grade school and Junior High Students
• 6-7:30 for Adults and High School Students

Spring! Finally!

 

The weather is warming just in time for TSAA’s Art-in-the-Park! But everything is greened up nicely, and it is warm enough, but not too hot to spend a day at Huntington’s fabulous Ritter Park.

 About Art-in-the-Park

This year Art-in-the-Park will be Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19. The artists of Tri-State Art Association will have their varied media on display and for sale both days, all day long.

Of course, many of the artists of The Renaissance Art Gallery will be displaying their work in the park both days. So this means the Renaissance Art Gallery will be closed Friday May 17, Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19 for art in the Park. See you there!
