The public is invited to this event.  Laura will provide camera check-ups. basic photo tips, hands-on practice, as well as providing travel photography ideas.  Space will need to be limited to 15 participants.    To reserve a seat, please call Laura at 304-743-8281.  Bring cameras with charged batteries.  Come and enjoy a Sunday afternoon at the gallery.

 

Laura Moul is a landscape photographer known throughout West Virginia for her love of the flora and fauna of the region. She has been a frequent participant in art shows. She is in her own right a well known and award winning artist. She has art on permanent display at The Renaissance Art Gallery and is a frequent participant in regular shows. She recently received her Photographic Craftsman degree from Professional Photographers of America.  She is a valuable resource on fine art photography and all the changes technology has brought to the field.

Hot times in July at the Renaissance

This weekend promises to be a scorcher! Over half the U.S. is in sever draught, and those of us who aren't, yet are still so hot it is dangerous!

Most outdoor activities are not going to be pleasent, but the Renaissance Art Gallery will be open, and air conditioned. Perfect day and weather to come in out of the heat and enjoy local original art.

Friday Photographer Laura Moul will host the gallery from 12- 4 pm. Laura is an award winning landscape artist. So is also an expert in digital photography. The perfect person to ask questions of about digital photography. She knows what all those little pictures on your camera mean!

Saturday Susan Tschantz will be in. Susan teaches beginning art and drawing at the Renaissance. She will be in working on her ATC for the upcoming August 25th swap. She would welcome the company and would be happy to show you how simple and enjoyable Art Trading Cards are.

Susan will also be in Sunday from 1-4 pm. Again, she will have all her drawing toys, um, I mean tools! Susan has been using the latest tinted charcoal from Derwent along with tinted graphite. These exciting new products make drawing a new artform again.

Pets, Watercolors and Photographs

This week we have a mix of artists hosting the Gallery. Friday, Pet artist Gary :Lapelle will open the Gallery at Noon. He loves drawing animal portraits. Saturday watercolorist Pati Payne will be in the gallery. She is known for her florals. Sunday noted landscape photographer Laura Moul will host the gallery from 1-4 pm.

Art in the Park

Last weekend the weather was perfect for Art in the Park, 2012. Hot, but the trees offered good shade, and a constant, but light breeze made it perfect for walking around. The nice weather meant lots of people browsing and then buying art.

Artists of the Renaissance Art Gallery had both a relaxing and successful weekend. Pati Payne got lots of complements on both her hand painted bookmarks and the cards she paints at the Renaissance Art Gallery. Laura Moul also had a great time interacting with fellow artist and the public.

Artists were out with such a wide range of artwork, just about anything you could have wanted was available. Watercolors, oils, photographs, carvings and more. Along with the different mediums were different uses of those mediums. Yes, there were painting, but also cards and other items.

This Weekend at the Renaissance Art Gallery: May 4, 5 and 6, 2012

With spring finally arriving, a host of activities are planned for the Renaissance Gallery this weekend.

First up this Friday is Artist/photographer Laura Moul.

Laura loves to share her love of photography and knowledge of digital photography with others. With all the changes in photography in recent years, it can all be a bit overwhelming! The technology has exploded! Where once you loaded film into a camera and then had to have it developed, now you can take pictures with your phone.

All these changes can be overwhelming! If you are switching from film to digital, how do you get the best out of it, or even get anything! Photographer Laura Moul can answer your questions and help you with your point and shoot or DSLR cameras. Whether it is setting up a shot, dealing with light issues or getting the picture out of the camera and into print, Laura is your girl for all the answers.

Laura will be having a free digital workshop at The Renaissance Art Gallery this Friday, May 4, 2012 at The Renaissance Art Gallery, 900 8th Street, Suite 20, Huntington, WV from 12-4 pm. Bring in your camera or simply come in and see her outstanding landscape photos our area.

Saturday Renaissance Artist, Susan Tschantz will be working in Charcoal. Ancient Medium—Modern Take.

Charcoal may be mankind’s first art medium. It has been used to cover cave walls and outline great sculptures. It still plays a large role in art today. Charcoal is one of the most expressive drawing mediums. Explore charcoal in its many forms and see what modern innovations there are in this medium.Susan teaches our Wednesday adult and junior art classes and will be working with charcoal Saturday May 5 at The Renaissance Art Gallery. 12-4 pm.

Sunday, Renaissance Art Gallery and figure artist Linda Helgason will be in The Renaissance Art Gallery from 1-4 pm. She is an outstanding expressive artist and photographer. Linda loves to talk about local art and artists.

Figure Drawing Returning to The Renaissance Art Gallery

Bruce Bowersock

Bruce Bowersock will teach a 6-weekSpring figure drawing class at Renaissance Art Gallery in Historic Huntington High from April 21 through May 26, 2012. It will be held on Saturday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. in the Kumkum Majumdar Exhibition Hall.






Bruce doesn’t have any rules about how you interpret the subject...you may paint, use charcoal, pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic any medium. Bruce is there to demo, instruct or just work with individuals who need help. It is a great class. If you have any questions, feel free to call at 304-633-6035.

In other news, Laura Moul had a framed metallic photograph accepted into the 2nd Annual Gallery 842 show in Huntington, which runs until the middle of April. She has also been invited to participate in the Tamarack Spring Wildflower show, with 5-framed metallic photographs. That show opens April 1st and runs until June.

First Weekend in March

The Renaissance Art Gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week. Hours Friday and Saturday are 12-4 pm, while Sunday hours are 1-4 pm.

Everyone who "hosts" the Gallery is a working artist, and they are happy to visit with you.

Local Photographer Earns Craftsman Degree

Laura Moul of Creative Photography, Design, & Consulting LLC (Milton WV) and Renaissance Art Gallery member has earned the Photographic Craftsman degree from Professional Photographers of America. The degree was presented to Mrs. Moul by PPA President Don Dickson, M.Photog. Hon.M.Photog., CPP at the association's annual convention, Imaging USA, held January 15-17, 2012, in New Orleans, Louisiana.



Moul has met the standards of excellence set by PPA and was awarded this degree in recognition of her contributions to the profession of photography through continuing education and the sharing of knowledge with fellow photographers to promote excellence in imagery and business practices.

Final Days for 3 Media, 3 States Show

It seems we were just gearing up for this welcoming show, but now it is down to the last 6 gallery days of 3 Media, 3 States show. It has been a wonderful show, but now it is getting time to move onto our 11th Annual National Minaiture show.

Pati, Linda and Laura did a super job of putting this show together. It is a great mix of ideas and representations. Comments from visitors have been very positive, with people really enjoying the different media.

There is still time to see all the wonderful works by these three artists. 3 Media, 3 State will hang until Oct 16th.

New Art Show a Success!

 Sunday's Opening reception for "3 Media, 3 States" was a big success. Many long time gallery friends as well as new visitors crowded the 2 rooms of the Renaissance Gallery enjoying both the art and fellowship in our Gallery. Linda Helgasson again hosted a beautiful reception.

All three artists, Laura Moul, Linda Harbison and Pati Payne got the accolades they deserved while welcoming friends and family to The Renaissance Art Gallery. The artwork flowed from Laura’s landscape photography to Pati’s intimate watercolors through Linda’s “Camden Park” series. Linda sculptures added an interesting punch to the show.

While the reception was well attended, the show itself is hanging in the main gallery until October 16, 2011, so there is till time to come in and enjoy this wonderful show!

Best of West Virginia 2011

The 4th Annual Best of West Virginia Juried Exhibition opened June 19, 2011 at Tamarack. Thirty-six counties in WV with 109 artists are represented in the exhibition that runs until August 13th. Christine Humphrey, Gallery Manager, commented that it showcases the most talented and creative artists in West Virginia.

Two members of the Renaissance Gallery had artwork accepted into this special show. Ron Haeberle, of Huntington, WV, had a watercolor of a West Virginia river and Laura Moul, of Milton, WV, had a metallic photographic reflection of Stewart Hall into the windows of the Mountainlair at West Virginia University.

Currently at the Renaissance Gallery is a solo exhibition of Ron Haeberle's "Surf and Turf a serious look at landscapes". Laura also has artwork in the gallery. The Renaissance Art Gallery is open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is located on the ground floor of the Renaissance Building (the old Huntington High School) on the corner of 8th Street and 9th Avenue.

The Renaissance Art Gallery is an artist co-operative gallery focusing on the work of local artists. Their mission is to promote art and art education in the community and among its members.
